Gaming system: Nintendo DS
I have always loved Pokemon ever since the first game came out. Pokemon Soul Silver, however, takes the gold for me. Note: Heart Gold and Soul Silver are two different versions of the same game, so you only need to buy one of them for the full experience. As a Pokemon connoisseur, what makes Soul Silver the best? Let me list the ways!
- You can catch Pokemon generations 1-4. That's almost 500 Pokemon! It's like having multiple games in one.
- Each version comes with a Pokewalker, a real-live accessory that you can transfer your Pokemon onto and clip onto your belt. You can also find items and rare Pokemon on the Pokewalker, which you can transfer back to use in your game.
- The leading Pokemon in your team walks behind the trainer in the game. It's a cute little detail that I miss in other versions.

Harvest Moon: More Friends of Mineral Town
Gaming system: Game Boy Advance (playable on Nintendo DS)
Harvest Moon is a farming simulation with a lot more adventure and fun than Facebook farming games can offer. This particular version is my favorite because it's the only version to have a girl as the playable character. You can raise livestock, ride horses, train dogs, grow crops, befriend the villagers, explore the forest and caves, participate in contests, and yes, even fall in love.

Minecraft
Gaming system: PC and Xbox 360
Minecraft is a deceitfully simple game that's all about creating a world of your own. Creative mode allows the player to build to their hearts content. Survival mode allows the player to explore and fight monsters. For a full review, check out my blog post Minecraft: A Game For All Players.

Tokyo Jungle
Gaming system: PlayStation Network
This quirky game is all about animal survival. From beagle to sheep, from lion to rabbit, can you become the strongest animal in an abandoned Tokyo? For a full review, check out my blog post Tokyo Jungle: Go Wild!
Content: violence and blood, disturbing images.
Pikmin
Gaming system: Game Cube
In this innovative game, you play as Captain Olimar, a tiny spaceman who has crashed landed on a strange planet. In order to escape, you must enlist the help of cute and colorful creatures named Pikmin. Like ants, Pikmin can work together to carry things, open up new routes, and bring down creatures much bigger than themselves. I would also highly recommend Pikmin 2, available on the Wii.

Plants Vs. Zombies
Gaming system: PC
I was totally addicted to this game for a long time... Plants Vs. Zombies is a unique strategy game in which you must plant different plants to defend your house against attacking zombies. Lighthearted yet challenging, this game has great playability (I think I beat it three times in total). And best of all, it's not that expensive!
Content: violence, disturbing images.
Slender
Gaming system: PC
Not only is this the only horror game I will ever recommend, but it's also completely free. It may seem simply made, but golly, this game scared the crap out of me! For a full review, check out my blog post Slenderman = Modern-Day Bigfoot.

Mythbusters
Discovery Channel
Does a duck's quack echo? Can a person be electricuted when peeing on an electric fence? Just how hard is it to find a needle in a haystack? Hilarious duo Jamie and Adam confirm or bust these myths and more using science, experiments, and explosions.
Content: mild language, disturbing images.
Psych
USA Network
Shawn hates the structure of law enforcement, but is really good at solving crimes with his super attention to detail. So with his friend Gus, Shawn passes himself as a psychic and solves murder cases in hilarious ways. This comedy is lighthearted and has awesome characters.
Content: moderate language, disturbing images, sexual content.
White Collar
USA Network
Charismatic Neal Caffrey is an expert forger and con-man. Only problem is, he got caught. So he strikes a deal with the police and helps Agent Peter Burke solve white collar crimes. Only Neal has motivations of his own. Can he be trusted? Either way, he's really cute. ;)
Content: moderate language, disturbing images, sexual content.
Adventure Time
Cartoon Network
This outrageous cartoon has loveable characters and nutty stories that both kids and adults will enjoy. Finn and his buddy Jake use the power of good to slay monsters and save princesses. You never know what to expect from this show!
Content: disturbing images.
Burn Notice
USA Network
This action adventure follows Michael Weston, a spy who gets burned for an unknown reason. He recuits his friends Fiona and Sam to help get his old job back, and at the same time, helps everyday people in trouble with the wrong kind of people. This show is surprisingly full of heart while being intense and hilarious all at once.
Content: moderate language, violence and blood, disturbing images, sexual content.
Jackie Chan Adventures
KidsWB
This is the BEST children's cartoon ever! With lots of martial arts, magical artifacts, and our favorite actor of all time (a.k.a. Jackie Chan), this under-appreciated cartoon series is full of laughs, great characters, and a cool story.
Content: violence
Avatar: the Last Airbender
Nickelodeon
This cartoon is anything but childish. This deep, mature cartoon series is as much a piece of art as it is entertainment. And what great entertainment it is! Laugh, cry, and cheer with lovable characters and a rich story line. Trust me, the movie has got NOTHING on the original cartoon series.
